She was a science teacher in Washington, married with two children, when a search into her own adoption records revealed who her father was: Clint Eastwood.
Laurie Murray is the eldest of Clint Eastwood’s eight children, and the only one he had no idea about until she was a grown woman with a family of her own. She grew up adopted in Washington state, with no clue that her biological father was a film star. He did not know she had been born.
For more than three decades, that was the situation. Eastwood became famous and went on to have seven more children by other relationships. Murray trained as a teacher and got on with an ordinary life. The two of them would not meet until she was well into her thirties.

Who is Laurie Murray?
She was born Laurie Alison Warren on 11 February 1954 and adopted as a newborn by Clyde and Helen Warren, who raised her around Seattle. She spent her working life as a fifth-grade science teacher, married Lowell Thomas Murray III in 1979, and brought up two children. By the time the link to Eastwood came out, she already had a long, settled life of her own. At 72, she still keeps well back from public attention, which is why her name means little even to people who can reel off the rest of the Eastwood family.
The secret Clint Eastwood was never told about
It begins in 1953, before Eastwood was a star. He spent time in Seattle and got involved with a young woman who, according to his biographer Patrick McGilligan, belonged to a local theatre group he had joined. The relationship ended, and afterwards she found out she was pregnant.
She told no one who the father was. She gave the baby up for adoption and never contacted him again. The one thing she left on record was his name, entered as the father on the adoption paperwork. Her own identity has never been made public.
The secret, such as it was, belonged to her mother. Eastwood learned he had a daughter only when she came looking for him.
How she found her birth father
In her thirties, Murray set out to trace her birth parents and hired someone to help. The search led to her adoption records, and the records led to Eastwood. She got in touch, and he took the news well and brought her into the family.
She has said very little about any of it in public. A rare exception was a 2024 interview with Carmel Magazine, in which she explained that neither she nor her father had known the other existed. She called him a wonderful man and said she had loved becoming part of a much larger family.
“When I met my dad, it was love at first sight.”
In the same interview, she remembered being shown a 1950s newspaper clipping of Eastwood in his early twenties, taken at a lifeguard class on Lake Washington. Even in a group photo, she said, he was the one who stood out.
Her husband and two children
Murray’s husband, Lowell Thomas Murray III, comes from a family that ran a long-established timber firm in the Pacific Northwest, so she was comfortably off well before her father came along. A family friend told the Daily Mail she was not someone chasing his money.
The couple have two children:
- Lowell “LT” Murray IV, a personal trainer and yoga instructor based around Seattle
- Kelsey, who stays out of the public eye like her mum
The grandson who turned up on The Bachelorette
For a lot of people, the Eastwood connection first showed up on reality TV. In 2021, LT Murray joined Michelle Young’s series of The Bachelorette as the oldest man in the cast, arriving in a tuxedo jacket and swim shorts.
His bio mentioned a tattoo of his grandfather’s initials, and viewers soon worked out who that grandfather was. He kept it low-key, telling the Daily Mail that Eastwood had “been a great father to my mom” and had always been good to him and his family.
How close is she to Clint Eastwood?
They have stayed close. Over the years the family has turned out for one another:
- She joined Eastwood at the 2004 Oscars, photographed arm in arm with his mother, Ruth Wood
- He went to LT’s wedding in 2012
- He hosted Kelsey’s wedding in 2016 at his Mission Ranch in Carmel
- She made her red carpet debut at the 2018 premiere of The Mule, alongside all seven of her siblings
- In June 2024, she was at her half-sister Morgan Eastwood’s wedding, where all eight of Clint’s children gathered
Where is Laurie Murray now?
She divides her time between Lakewood, Washington, and La Quinta, California, and still lives quietly. Her father, now 96 and reportedly retired from filmmaking, has stayed close to the family he spent so long not knowing he had.
The mother no one has ever named
One part of this story has never been answered. Who was the woman who gave birth to Murray, and why did she decide Eastwood would never know he had a first child? She made that choice in 1953 and kept it for the rest of her life. Of everyone involved, she is the only one who was never named.
