Who is Nathalia Chubin?
Chubin has worked in marketing for more than fifteen years, first in advertising and then in video games. She also holds a non-executive board role.
The basics:
- Job: global marketing director at Team17, the British games label behind the Worms series
- Married to: actor Adam Garcia, since 2015
- Children: two
- Based in: London
- Born: around 1984
From a west London classroom to PlayStation
Chubin left Godolphin and Latymer, an independent girls’ school in Hammersmith, west London, in 2002. She studied at Trinity College Dublin, then took a master’s in international studies at SOAS, University of London.
She started out at McCann Erickson, working on advertising campaigns for consumer brands, tech and entertainment clients. In 2011 she joined PlayStation, in the product marketing team at Sony’s European headquarters in London.
This is where the games side of her career began. She ran launch campaigns for big releases across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, and worked with Sony’s London Studio in her early years there. When Sony shut the studio in 2024, Chubin wrote on LinkedIn that much of the franchise branding people still recognise “came from brains in that building.”
What came after PlayStation
After her first child, Chubin co-founded By Day, a flexible-working company for parents. In a 2018 interview with the wellbeing site &Breathe, she said she had “always hated the notion” of a contract telling her when she could pick her daughter up from school, and wanted to give parents more control over their hours.
She then returned to games at a senior level. At Square Enix she was a brand director, worked on the mobile game Tomb Raider: Reloaded, and spoke about the part games can play in promoting diversity. In 2022 she joined Team17 as global marketing director.
One of Team17’s biggest successes during her time there has been Dredge, a fishing-horror game the company published, which won IGN’s best indie game of 2023. She has also helped launch The Purple Panel, a Team17 podcast about women in games leadership, and has represented the company at Gamescom in Cologne, one of the industry’s biggest trade shows.
How she and Adam Garcia met
Chubin and Garcia were friends for a few years before they got together in 2013, around the time he was a judge on Sky’s Got to Dance. By his account, they first met through her sister, whom he already knew.
The proposal came over Christmas in Sydney, where Garcia’s family lives. He woke her at four in the morning and told her they were heading to a national park to look for bandicoots, then proposed there with a diamond ring. He told New Idea afterwards that he had “never met someone who makes every mundane moment fun.” The engagement became public in January 2015.
They married on 26 March 2015 at a London registry office, less than three months later.
Their children
The couple have two children. Their daughter, Arya Storm Diana Garcia, was born in August 2015. Garcia has spoken about how hard the birth was, though mother and baby were both fine afterwards. Their son was born around 2018, and they have kept his name private.
The family is based in London. Garcia’s acting work takes him abroad, including to Australia and the United States, while Chubin’s career has stayed with British games companies.
A public career, a private life
For someone fairly senior in her field, Chubin has had very little written about her. One of the few places her career is set out at any length is a short post on her old school’s website, after she went back in 2023 to talk to pupils about working in games.
The games industry talks a lot about getting more women into senior roles, and Chubin is part of that conversation through The Purple Panel. Even so, there is almost no coverage of her own career. She has given no interviews about her marriage, her Instagram is private, and her children are kept out of the press. The name most people recognise still comes from her husband’s acting career rather than her own work.
