Ferris is hosting the Beth Dutton and Rip Wheeler spinoff. The town of 3,000 sits 20 miles south of Dallas in Ellis County, part of the DFW metroplex. Kelly Reilly and Cole Hauser are back as Beth and Rip, with Finn Little returning as Carter. Cameras started rolling in August across North Texas.

No Official Title Yet
Early reports called it “Rio Palo.” 101 Studios told Country Living in mid-August that was just a scheduling placeholder. “The Dutton Ranch” surfaced next. Cole Hauser said publicly that is not the final name either. Paramount has not announced what the show will be called.
Ferris city manager Brooks Williams spoke with reporters in August. “You didn’t just choose a location, you gave Ferris a chance to be part of the story,” he said. Officials see potential for tourism similar to Southfork Ranch, which still draws visitors 35 years after Dallas ended.
Cast Expanded Through Autumn
Annette Bening came aboard on August 25. Variety reported she would play Beulah Jackson, who controls another large Texas ranch. Ed Harris joined nine days later as Everett McKinney, a veterinarian. The 75-year-old had not done regular television work since Westworld wrapped in 2022.
Jai Courtney signed on in mid-September as Rob-Will, a ranch foreman. Four more actors arrived by mid-October. Marc Menchaca was cast as Zachariah, an ex-convict working as a wrangler. Natalie Alyn Lind was cast as Oreana. Juan Pablo Raba takes on Joaquin, who fixes problems at a large operation. JR Villarreal joins as Azul, described as Rip’s right-hand man.
Chad Feehan serves as showrunner. He worked with Taylor Sheridan on Lawmen: Bass Reeves in 2023.
Cameras Across the Region
The Fort Worth Star-Telegram confirmed filming in Boyd, Cleburne, Rio Vista, Fort Worth, and Mineral Wells. Casting notices went out for rodeo extras and bar patrons. One call requested a photo double for Juan Pablo Raba in Weatherford.
Javier Martinez owns a restaurant on Ferris’s downtown square. He told CBS News Texas his establishment features western décor. “Obviously the advertising will help us a lot,” Martinez said.
Charlie Hatfield publishes the Ellis County Press and sits on city council. “This would do nothing but help us grow,” he said.
Sheridan’s Fort Worth Base
Taylor Sheridan opened SGS Studios in August 2025 at AllianceTexas in north Fort Worth. The 450,000-square-foot facility has six sound stages. D Magazine quoted Sheridan: “Texas offers something rare: the space to dream big, the freedom to build fast, and a community that still believes storytelling matters.”
Texas approved £1.2 billion in film incentives over 10 years. That legislation took effect September 1. Sheridan testified for the bill alongside Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson. Landman Season 2 used the facility. Portions of Lioness Season 3 filmed there as well. The series shoots some scenes at the studio, though most ranch work happens on location.
2026 Premiere
Paramount scheduled the show for November 2025, then pushed it to 2026 during a July earnings call. The company gave no explanation. Landman Season 2 premiered in December 2025. Mayor of Kingstown Season 4 aired in October, Tulsa King Season 3 in September.
Y: Marshals, with Luke Grimes as Kayce Dutton, premieres on CBS in March 2026. The Madison, starring Michelle Pfeiffer and Matthew Fox, finished filming two seasons but has no release date. The series will air on Paramount Network first, then Paramount+.
Story After Montana
Beth killed Jamie in Yellowstone’s December 2024 finale. She and Rip left Montana with Carter after buying a new ranch. They sold the Yellowstone Dutton Ranch to Thomas Rainwater. The series follows them on their 7,000-acre Texas property. Beulah Jackson controls a competing ranch nearby. Texas ranching differs from Montana’s, something Sheridan touched on through Four Sixes Ranch scenes in Yellowstone’s final season.
Tourism Remains Uncertain
Ferris made its reputation through the Ferris Brick Company, which supplied materials across America. City officials view television production as an economic opportunity.
Southfork Ranch still attracts Dallas fans decades later, but that outcome is uncommon for filming locations. Whether audiences care enough about this show to visit Ferris years from now cannot be predicted. Production continues across Ellis County, and what happens after filming wraps depends on how the show performs in 2026.
