Kansas City ran a perfect football game. Zero penalties. Zero turnovers. Four touchdown drives from six red zone trips. Patrick Mahomes threw for 257 yards and three scores, added a rushing touchdown, and in the process became the fastest quarterback in NFL history to reach 300 career touchdown passes — doing so in 139 games, eight fewer than Aaron Rodgers. The final score was 30-17, and it wasn’t that close.
The Detroit Lions flew into Arrowhead Stadium on October 12, 2025, riding a four-game winning streak as the NFL’s highest-scoring offense. What they could not account for was a defensive secondary gutted by injury. Three starting cornerbacks — D.J. Reed, Terrion Arnold, and Avonte Maddox — were all out. Mahomes found every seam. By the third quarter, Dan Campbell had seen enough: “We got worked pretty good.”
The Lions’ night turned on its opening drive. Fifteen plays, 9:39 of clock, deep into Kansas City territory — and what should have been a go-ahead touchdown was wiped out when officials, after a long delay, flagged Jared Goff for illegal motion on a trick play near the goal line. No flag had been thrown live. Detroit settled for a Jake Bates field goal and never led again. Below is every player stat, team stat, and advanced metric from that game.
Statistics sourced from Pro Football Reference, ESPN, and Pro Football Focus (PFF).

When the final numbers are laid out in full, the gap between these two teams on October 12, 2025, was not close. Kansas City generated a +0.47 EPA per passing play — the 93rd percentile league-wide at that point in the season — against a Lions secondary missing four players who would typically have been on the field. Mahomes’s 8.1 yards after the catch per completion, against 5.6 for Goff, showed how far behind the sticks Detroit’s defense was routinely putting itself. The Chiefs converted both their fourth-down attempts. The Lions converted neither of theirs.
For Detroit, the Lions passing attack held its own on paper — a 79.3% completion rate, two touchdown passes, 118.8 passer rating — but the underlying efficiency numbers told a different story. Kansas City’s defense allowed just 0.04 EPA per pass play from the Lions. The Chiefs, by contrast, generated six red zone possessions to Detroit’s two, punted only once, and never needed to press late. Mahomes’s 302nd career touchdown pass, set against the backdrop of Arrowhead Stadium at full roar, was the kind of milestone that tends to arrive on nights when everything else is already going right.
