Final ScoreIndiana Hoosiers 56 — Oregon Ducks 22
RecordsIndiana 15–0 (No. 1 CFP) · Oregon 13–2 (No. 5 CFP)

Eleven seconds. That was how long Oregon’s College Football Playoff ran before Indiana cornerback D’Angelo Ponds stepped in front of Dante Moore’s first pass of the game, picked it off and returned it 25 yards to the end zone. The Hoosiers had not run a single offensive play. They were already ahead by seven.

What followed across the next four quarters at Mercedes-Benz Stadium was a systematic dismantling of a 13-win Oregon program. Fernando Mendoza completed 17 of 20 passes for five touchdowns without throwing an interception. Indiana’s defense generated three turnovers off Moore, all before halftime, converting each into points. The Hoosiers led 35–7 at the break after Oregon managed nine rushing yards on 17 first-half carries — the direct consequence of starting running backs Noah Whittington (829 yards on the season) and Jordon Davison (667 yards, 15 touchdowns) both being unavailable due to injury. The final margin was 56–22.

Indiana had beaten Oregon once already that season, 30–20 at Autzen Stadium on October 11, when Moore threw two interceptions and was sacked six times. The rematch in Atlanta was less competitive. Ten days after the Peach Bowl, the Hoosiers defeated Miami 27–21 at Hard Rock Stadium to complete a 16–0 season and claim the program’s first national championship.

The numbers from this game hold up as some of the most lopsided of the entire 2025 CFP cycle. Indiana’s defense went into the game as one of the most pressuring units in college football, and it was Daniel Ndukwe’s pass rush — four pressures, two sacks — that set the tone for what Moore had to contend with all night. Oregon’s offensive line allowed 21 total pressures, the byproduct of facing a front seven with no counters available at running back. Without Whittington or Davison at full strength, the Ducks could not threaten Indiana between the tackles, which let the Hoosiers play more aggressive coverage shells and made Moore’s job miserable.

Mendoza, by contrast, operated behind an offensive line that gave up one sack against an Oregon defense that generated a -0.11 EPA per passing play on the night. His 89.5 adjusted completion percentage, 12.4-yard average depth of target and 143.1 passer rating represent about as clean a performance as a quarterback can have in a major bowl game. Six receivers caught touchdown passes. Only one target hit the ground.

Indiana left Atlanta at 15–0, with a national championship date against Miami ten days away. The Hoosiers won that game too, 27–21, sealing a 16–0 season and the program’s first national title. The Peach Bowl statistics tell the story of a team that was built for this moment and an opponent that arrived undermanned and never recovered from the first 11 seconds.
