Nik Bonitto rose and tipped Marcus Mariota’s two-point conversion pass to the Northwest Stadium turf, and the Denver Broncos held on for a 27-26 overtime win over the Washington Commanders on Sunday Night Football. It was Denver’s ninth straight victory of the 2025 NFL season and their eighth one-score escape — the kind of result that separates good teams from pretenders.
RJ Harvey put Denver up seven on the Broncos’ first overtime possession, finishing a five-play, 76-yard drive with a five-yard touchdown run. Washington answered with an 11-play, 65-yard march, Mariota hitting Terry McLaurin at the three-yard line to pull within one. Dan Quinn sent his offense back out for the conversion. Bonitto read the play, extended his right arm, and that was the game.
Bo Nix threw for 321 yards with one touchdown and one interception for the AFC West-leading Broncos, who moved to 10-2. Mariota — starting in place of Jayden Daniels, who had been sidelined since Week 9 with a dislocated left elbow — passed for 294 yards and two touchdowns. Washington outgained Denver 419 yards to 402 and controlled the ball for more than 35 minutes, but the Commanders fell to 3-9 and a seventh consecutive defeat.

Stats sourced from Pro Football Reference, ESPN, and Pro Football Focus. Advanced passing and pass-rush metrics per PFF.
Denver finished the night at 10-2 — one of the most complete records in football through that point of the 2025 season — with eight of those ten wins decided by one score or less. Washington dropped to 3-9, seven losses straight, the product of a roster hammered by injuries all autumn: its starting quarterback, its top wide receiver for much of the year, its primary running back, its best pass rusher. On paper, the Commanders had no business making Bonitto’s final act the one play that separated the teams. That they came within a deflected pass of sending it to a second overtime is the only postscript that matters.
