Records, Rivalry and Standings
Allen’s two one-yard scoring runs were the 78th rushing touchdown of his career including the playoffs, breaking the quarterback record he had shared with Cam Newton. His 88.5 percent completion rate set the Bills’ single-game franchise mark. For Mahomes, it was the first regular-season game of his career in which he completed fewer than half his passes, and he was held without a passing touchdown.
The result was Buffalo’s fifth straight regular-season win over Kansas City. The Bills still trailed the rivalry where it has hurt them most, sitting 0-4 against the Chiefs in the playoffs, including the previous January’s AFC Championship. The win moved Buffalo to 6-2 and dropped Kansas City to 5-4, only the third time under Andy Reid that the Chiefs had lost four games this early in a season.
When Mahomes’ final throw fell short of the end zone and was batted down, he had completed 44.1 percent of his passes, a number he had never reached in a regular-season game. Buffalo had its fifth in a row over the team that has defined the AFC, and the box score left little to argue.
